Career Training

QACPS Career and Technology Education (CTE) programs focus on workforce priorities and emerging careers. Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are driving the 21st-century economy. The programs help students prepare for success in a variety of careers and provide opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials and college credit while still in high school.

Chesapeake College’s Workforce Training and Skilled Trades Programs provide training for you or your staff, focusing on your business, technology, or manufacturing priorities.

QAC Economic & Tourism Development’s Career Technology Development program provides opportunities for youth to get on-the-job training & experience. It also serves the local business community by connecting them with a local youth workforce for internships, apprenticeship & careers.

MARINE SERVICE TECHNICIAN PROGRAM  

Whether you are a boat enthusiast, work in the marine industry, or are ready to begin a new career, our instructors will teach you to install, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a wide range of marine equipment and systems. Learn in our dedicated marine trades labs with industry experts, then put your skills to work on the water as a Yamaha Certified Technician, Basic Marine Electronics Installer (MEI), or American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC). INTRODUCTION TO MARINE ENGINE SYSTEMS

This continuing education course is designed to enable students to gain a basic understanding of marine engines, their operating principles, and the tools used to service and maintain them. This course is ideal for those interested in pursuing employment in the marine service industry. Topics include an orientation to the marine service industry, outboard engine systems, diesel engine systems, common engine/boat parts, mechanic service tools, and basic service procedures. Students have the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized certifications from marine manufacturers such as Yamaha and Volvo Penta.
Course fee: $560 (Tuition: In-county $100, Out-of-county $105, Out-of-state $110)

We visited the CTE Masonry class at Queen Anne's County High School and learned about what the students learn in this program from Mike Blackiston, the Masonry Instructor. The students also visited the construction site for the new YMCA and learned more about the project from the site Project Supervisor from KRM Construction.
